Magicka: Wizard Wars Part 1

Have you ever heard of a game called Magicka? How about DOTA? League of Legends? The Magicka itself is an interesting RPG game where you can play coop or single player following a storyline. You control a faceless wizard which can combines elements to create spell for battle. Interesting right? One thing that makes the Magicka unique is it’s battle system where you have to combine elements to cast spell. The spells that can be casted range from a defensive shield, defensive wall, armor, projectile weapon/meteor shot, beam weapon/lazor, mines, bombs, storms, arc lightning, power circles, wards.Whew, imagine that.

Global Agenda

global agenda

Recently I manage to get a hold on this game for just USD 5 after discount. A very entertaining shooter with some element of PVE and PVP. Or to better sum it up is like a Tabula Rasa + TF2 + Gears of war. So far I’m only concentrating on one class to prepare it for AVA.

DNS-323 Transmission BT 2.21 Installation

Now that you have a working chroot debian, it is now time to install a bt client. There is a lot of bt client out there but transmission is one of the best one due to its low memory footprint and low resource usage. In this post, I will explain on how to install transmission bt.

Login to your NAS using Putty. In the linux shell, run these command. These files/program will help you compile and build the transmission program from its source code.

DNS-323 Chroot Debian Installation

So, now you got the new shiny DNS-323 with 1TB hard disk. Currently it cost about RM 360 per unit. And add another RM250 for the hard disk. All in all it is about RM600 needed for you to run your own NAS. And then you proceed to install the NAS.

Notes: The DNS-323 has a serious bug when adding new hard disk to current setup. It will misidentified the installed hard disk and format the existing hard disk instead of the new inserted one. I advise you to remove the old hard disk first if you plan to add new hard disk to your DNS-323. Once you format the new hard disk, reinsert the old hard disk.

Disclaimer: Proceed with your own risk. I will not be responsible for any bricking or damage or frustration arise when installing and configuring the DNS-323.

DNS 323 NAS Review

I haven’t update this website for a very very long time due to my life as engineer and I don’t have time to do so. And recently I bought a NAS for my home network. It replace my old pentium 3 PC as the torrent PC and also able to stream UPNP compatible media.

So what is NAS? NAS is a small storage server system that is connected to your PC through network. Basically, it is a headless (no monitor) system that is configurable using browser. File transfer is done using share folder or network mapped drive letter.

A NAS can do a lot of things but mostly it is used as file server, media server, torrent client and streaming server.

Hardware

This brand new RM439 DNS-323 can be used as above but for my purpose, I want to turn it as a torrent PC, media server and of course storage system. It has 2 drive bay and users are able to slot in 2 SATA hard disk into it. DNS-323 support up to 2TB hard disk capacity through it’s latest firmware 1.08.

DNS-323 has a 500Mhz Marvell ARM Processor and 64MB RAM. Basically it has an average processing power of Pentium 3 PC but severely lack in mathematical process but not that we want to use it in that capacity. 64MB RAM is not too much to play around but should be sufficient for its role.

For more information on its performance, read it here: https://wiki.dns323.info/information:benchmarks

DNS-323 also able to support USB printer and USB external storage using its Shareport ability (though I didn’t use it).
